unSoy Cardi

img benchedcardi

I searched through Ravelry for ideas what to do with DK yarn. That really made me want the 9 volumes of Viking Knits! Anyway, I settled on trying the Soy Cardi, which I probably printed last summer just after she posted it! And, miraculously, I found that printout just after I dived through ravelry!

After the first skein of yarn:

I’ve nearly finished the November September Mystery socks… Yeah, it’s not November September any more (almost, though). These were cast on in March, I’m trying to talk myself into finishing them in July. I keep going back and forth on what to knit, cardigan or socks.

Tube Socks

As soon as I cast off MissA’s socks, I cast on for MissB. She’s still at that stage in which she’ll put on her socks any which way, so I thought I’d give tube socks a go.

Rainbow Baby Stripes

Rainbow Socks by Susanne Kitzmann
img rainbow socks

I finally finished the Rainbow Socks for MissA. This is a Lorna’s Laces single skein (usually my LYS carries them in pairs) that she picked out. Color: Baby Stripes.

I really enjoyed this pattern, I learned how to pick up the wraps. And, there was plenty of practice doing so!

Rainbow Baby Stripes?

I was at the yarn store a (couple) week(s) ago before yesterday (I’ve already forgotten how long it’s been), and the girls requested yarn. Each picked out a hank of sock yarn. When we were home, Miss A and I were looking at patterns online and came across one that she cried out, “I want that one!” So, yesterday I started knitting on her Rainbow Socks.

The yarn is Lorna’s Laces in “Baby Stripes” and the colors are actually baby blue and baby pink. Not my colors, but fun to watch the pattern.

Shall we have a quote of the day?

Grey for Mr. Grey

Fantastic job seeing that I had two left feet! No one wrote in why!

Sock the first was done to pattern and fit me perfectly, so I added an extra lace chart repeat to sock the second and finished knitting it and that one fit Ben. A pair of mismatched socks is always a photo shoot (though some may be rather hush hush). I’ve since frogged the toe from sock the first and made it to match the other.

1. Not on raveley yet: ;)
2. Pattern Source: Folk Socks by Nancy Bush
3. Yarn: Lorna’s Laces, 2 skeins in Pewter
4. Needle Size: US 0 (2mm)
5. Gauge: good question, will check when done NAK
6. Pattern Changes: No picot on hem (requested by recipient), Eye of Partridge heel, extra lace pattern repeat to give more length, used ssk at beginning of round on second toe to mirror first.
7. Yarn Review: Had a little tiny ball left from each foot as usual (even though the yarn shop insists I should get 3 socks from 2 skeins)
8. Did it fit: Yes, with the extra repeat. It fit my foot perfectly without it.
9. How many times did I frog: Just the toe once.
A. Usability analysis: Will be fabulous
B. Final Thoughts: I almost want to make a pair for me! So many other patterns to try first!

Toes and Totals

img baud toes
I finally started the Baudelaires last night. I bought the yarn last year (I printed the instructions on July 28, 2006), but put off knitting them until my gauge was more even. I’m glad I did. I’m using the 64 stitch sock on size 1US needles. The color is a lovely purple that’s hard to capture on camera, “Blackberry” by Lorna’s Laces.

This morning, while Ben slept in, I ran to the store to pick up some essentials:
img butter
I’m all for healthy foods, but at these prices I’m going to be cooking beans! For the 3 items, the total was $21.97. I use raw butter ($12.99 for that little tub! and that’s the bigger size, half that costs $7.99 at the store!) and raw milk because there’s less tummy trouble when they eat that versus the processed kind, and I use the unrefined coconut oil in my cooking (which actually wasn’t too bad a price).
I miss you Becky, and your reasonable prices for fresh (same day) raw milk!!

Tired

That’s my whole excuse for not blogging lately. That, and when I spend time actually doing things, I end up with little time to write about it.

Nephew Z’s birthday party was Saturday. We had a great time at the river! Then, we drove up to Papa’s house (FIL) and had a pleasant visit. It was so cute, Friday the children got up and packed their suitcases and were watching the clock like hawks waiting for Daddy to come home and take them to Papa’s for a sleepover! They had to wait a day, but they were so happy!

This morning, I started the Queen of Diamond Gloves from Knit Picks. They’re coming out cute and would fit great in the right gauge.. and if I had distorted fingers.. Apparently, I missed something when I placed my markers and the back of the hand side grew, but the palm side grew more slowly. There’s no reference in the directions on how many stitches end up between the markers, so I had hoped that I hadn’t really blundered.. Then it became more obvious. The thumb seems okay, but the pinky is using half the palm stitches instead of being on the end… I’m half tempted to just finish it as is and let the children have it for the dress up box. I haven’t taken any photos yet.

bamboo socks

Barb gave me some Bamboo yarn when she was here last. I think it’s Regia Bamboo (I’ll have to get up to look, but at the rate I’m going, I won’t make it back to actually post this today). I used knitty’s Widdershins pattern again. I should have gone up a needle size, so I used a k2p1 ribbing and made them longer to have enough fabric to stretch. I started the first from the outside of the skein and the second from the inside and knit till there was just enough to bind off. They fit fine, I’m getting used to the color.

Request
A couple weeks ago, we went to the LYS. TJ asked me to make a sweater from “Gold, Silver, and Copper” for him. He drew me a picture so that I do it right. We’ve discussed it and I’ve begun.
GSC sweater

I’ve got a few repeats of the stripes done. Each stripe is 1 inch. I wonder how long I should make it..

summer garden socks
I started the Summer Garden Socks on our drive this weekend. Turns out that I’m starting to knit more tight than I used to, so they’re a little snug. Will have to rip and reknit. I may just rip and use on a different patten, but this is a neat knit!

Six Socks

I’ve decide to join the Six Sox Knit-along. I’m really excited because some of the socks look really interesting. Right now, they have a neat lightning-lace going on. I won’t be making these ones because I read what the name means:

“A Horcrux is defined by Rowling as a “receptacle in which a Dark wizard has hidden a fragment of his soul for the purposes of attaining immortality.
A Horcrux can be made from any normal object: Lord Voldemort used a diary, a ring, and other objects as Horcruxes. Horcruxes may be concealed for security, but if discovered are vulnerable to destruction…”

It took me weeks, but I had actually started a pair. But I’m feeling rather convicted now that I read that. I don’t support the whole Harry Potter thing, the Bible teaches not to have dealings with magic. So, I won’t make these socks (even though, one might argue, they’re just socks) because they represent magical items.

If you’d like to join SixSox, a new pattern should be out in just a couple weeks. Plus, many of the older patterns are on file at the group.

I found the Regia Bamboo sock that I’d been working on and hope to have a pair of those made in time for the next pattern. Or better, get those and a pair from one of the older sixsox patterns done!

I’ve got another 2-3 inches to go before I reach the proper length for my Schottische Kilt Hose. I just ripped out the heel and reseated the needles.. Now I can’t find my working needle!

No-Bake Cookies
Better news, though: the children love No-Bake cookies!
(adapted from Betty Crocker Cookie Book)

1 cup (6 oz) chips: semisweet chocolate or peanut butter chips
1/4 cup liquid sweet: light or dark corn syrup, or maple syrup, or honey
1/4 cup peanut butter
2 Tbsp milk
1 tsp Vanilla
2 cups quick-cooking oats
1 cup nuts (they call for peanuts, we used pecans)

In a saucepan, heat all ingredients -except oats and nuts- until smooth, stirring to keep from burning. Remove from heat, add oats and nuts, and stir until well coated. Place onto wax paper (on a cookie sheet or in a container) by rounded spoonfuls. Refrigerate until cooled (if you can resist- this lets the moist ingredients soak into the oats), and enjoy!
